TapMazing privacy policy
This page explains what happens to your information when you play TapMazing on Android, iOS or Steam. TapMazing is made by Jigglebolt (Adriaan van Kesteren), who is responsible for that information. You can reach us at support@jigglebolt.com.
This policy is about TapMazing only. Our games that use a Jigglebolt account are covered by our privacy policy and our terms.
The short version
- TapMazing needs an account to save your progress: your Steam, Google Play Games or Apple account, or an anonymous one. Unity, whose game services we use, keeps the account and your saved progress.
- On phones and tablets you can choose to watch a video ad when you run out of energy. Unity's ad software starts with the game and collects information about your device, including its approximate location.
- We do not run servers of our own for TapMazing: nothing the game collects is sent to us, and we do not sell your information.
- You can delete your account yourself, in the game's settings.
Your game account
TapMazing needs an internet connection to start. It then signs you in to Unity Gaming Services, Unity's service for game accounts and saves. How you sign in depends on where you play:
- Steam: you are signed in automatically with your Steam account. Steam gives Unity a sign-in ticket that carries your Steam ID.
- Android: you sign in with Google Play Games, or choose to play without an account. Google shares your Play Games player ID and name; the game uses your name only to say hello. What Google Play Games itself does with your information is covered by Google's privacy policy.
- iOS: you sign in with Apple, or choose to play without an account. Apple shares your Apple account ID and, if you allow it, your name and e-mail address (Apple lets you hide your e-mail). The game uses your name only to say hello and does not store it.
- Without an account: Unity gives you an anonymous player ID that belongs to this device only.
Unity's sign-in service may also keep contact details that come with the account you sign in with, to run your game account.
Your saved progress
Once you are signed in, the game saves your progress with Unity Cloud Save, linked to your game account, so you can carry on on another device: which modes and levels you have unlocked and finished, your achievements, your scores and play statistics (such as time, jumps and health left), your energy, and how your character looks.
Your achievements and scores are kept in a part of Cloud Save that other TapMazing players could read through Unity's service. The game itself never shows them to anyone, and they contain no name or contact details.
A copy of your progress is also kept on your device, together with your settings, such as sound volume. Those settings stay on your device.
Game settings from Unity
Each time the game starts, it asks Unity's Remote Config service for its current settings — for example, whether ads are switched on. That request includes your device's language, the game's version and your platform.
Ads (Android and iOS only)
When you run out of energy, the game offers to refill it if you watch a video ad. Watching is your choice. The ads come from Unity LevelPlay and Unity Ads, both run by Unity Technologies.
Their software starts every time the game starts on a phone or tablet, also if you never watch an ad. To choose and show ads, count views and prevent fraud, it collects information from your device, such as your IP address, device type and settings, and on Android your advertising ID. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings. On iOS the game does not ask for permission to track you, so Apple's advertising identifier is not shared and the game does not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
From your IP address, Unity also works out your approximate location, but never your precise location. Unity uses it to make the game work, for statistics and for ads. Unity Ads also receives which ads you are shown and what you do with them, and whether you have bought “Ad Free”, for statistics and ads. If you write to Unity's ad support, Unity Ads receives what you send. When something goes wrong in the game, Unity may also receive a crash or error report (what went wrong, and on what kind of device), to keep the game working and for statistics.
If you buy “Ad Free”, the game never asks you to watch an ad.
Purchases
On Android and iOS you can buy “Ad Free”. Google Play or the App Store handles the payment; we never see your payment details. The game only learns whether you own it, and checks that again when it starts so a purchase can be restored. On Steam you buy the game itself, through Steam.
Steam friends
On Steam, the game shows your Steam friends what you are doing in it — for example which menu, mode, level or difficulty you are on — through Steam's “rich presence”. Who can see this follows your Steam privacy settings.
Unity engine statistics
TapMazing is made with the Unity engine, and is built with Unity's own analytics and hardware statistics switched on. That lets the engine send Unity basic technical information, such as your device model, operating system and the game's version.
What the game does not do
- It does not send anything to Jigglebolt: we have no TapMazing servers.
- We do not sell your information.
- The game itself does not read your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. The Android version lists some permissions (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi state and approximate location) that come with Google's Play Games add-on for playing with people nearby. TapMazing does not use that feature.
Who receives your information
- Unity Technologies: your game account, saved progress, game settings, ads and engine statistics. Unity is based in the United States, so your information may be processed there. See Unity's privacy policy.
- Valve (Steam), Google (Google Play Games and Google Play) and Apple (Sign in with Apple and the App Store), when you use them. Their own privacy policies apply.
Why, and on what basis
We use your account, saved progress and purchases to give you the game you asked for. We use game settings, engine statistics and ads because we have a legitimate interest in running the game and paying for it.
How long it is kept
- Your game account and saved progress: until you delete your account.
- On your device: until you delete your account or remove the game.
- Ad and engine data: as long as Unity's own policy says.
- E-mails you send us: as long as we need them to help you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to see, correct or delete your information, to limit or object to how it is used, and to receive it in a form you can take elsewhere. Write to support@jigglebolt.com; we answer within one month.
You can delete your account yourself in the game's settings. That deletes it from Unity's sign-in service and removes the progress saved on your device. If you also want your cloud save removed, or anything else, e-mail us.
You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
TapMazing is made for a general audience. The game does not ask your age, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has an account, delete it in the game's settings or e-mail us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
